Mahesh Kumar Goud calls for united front to protect democracy, slams Centre’s ‘Operation Kagar’

Hyderabad: TPCC President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday lashed out at the central government, accusing it of systematically eroding democratic values and using ‘Operation Kagar’ as a pretext to stifle dissent.

“Today, the country is witnessing a fascist style of governance that stands in stark contrast to our democratic principles,” he declared, addressing reporters in Hyderabad.

Goud condemned the Centre’s crackdown under the so-called ‘Operation Kagar’, describing it as a destructive move against peace and the Constitution. “The government is using ‘Operation Kagar’ to suppress voices and disrupt constitutional governance,” he said.

Highlighting the government’s alleged double standards, he pointed out, “When Maoists expressed their willingness to engage in talks, the Prime Minister remained unmoved. But when US President Trump snapped his fingers, the same Prime Minister was quick to hold talks with terrorists. This exposes the government’s hypocrisy,” he charged.

He questioned why the Centre, which had agreed to a ceasefire with Pakistan, was refusing dialogue with Indian citizens—Maoists—choosing instead a path of bloodshed. “Governments must operate within the framework of the Constitution. That’s the bedrock of democracy,” he said.

Goud underscored Congress’s legacy of non-violence, recalling that Naxalism initially emerged from economic inequalities and did manage to curb some atrocities in rural areas. “But over time, it lost its ideological path and degenerated into a platform for personal vendettas,” he remarked.

He accused the government of using the Maoist insurgency as a smokescreen to unleash corporate greed. “Through ‘Operation Kagar’, they’re paving the way for private companies to loot mineral resources from tribal regions,” he warned.

Goud also alleged that the BJP, since coming to power in 2014, had been systematically undermining constitutional bodies and playing politics on the basis of religion and caste. “They failed to deliver on their promises from 2014 and are now trying to cling to power by stoking religious sentiments,” he said.

Calling for a united resistance, he said, “It’s time for all secular forces to come together. Those who believe in democratic values must raise their voices collectively against this fascist regime.”

He urged left-leaning voices in the state to strengthen their presence, adding, “Now is the time to come together and teach the Centre a lesson it won’t forget.”
