Hyderabad: TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud hoisted the national flag at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday, marking the 79th Independence Day with a strong political message.
Senior Congress leaders T. Jagga Reddy, Dr. Chamala K. Sampath Kumar, V. Hanumantha Rao, and Seva Dal chairman Jitender joined the event. Advisory committee members and grassroots workers participated in large numbers. Addressing the gathering, Goud extended greetings to the people of Telangana and revisited the sacrifices that led to India’s freedom. He highlighted how countless leaders endured imprisonment and martyrdom. “The Gandhi-Nehru legacy stands at the heart of our independence,” he declared.
Mahesh Kumar Goud accuses the BJP of an anti-freedom legacy
Turning to national politics, Goud criticised the BJP for its alleged historical opposition to the freedom movement. He claimed BJP leaders supported British rule and now falsely claim patriotic credentials. “They bowed to the British and now pretend they led the struggle,” he said.
He attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration for serving corporate interests at the cost of ordinary citizens. “Fuel prices are skyrocketing. Policies favour the rich while crushing the poor,” he alleged. Goud also warned that democratic systems were under strain. He cited Rahul Gandhi’s claims of mass voter deletions and questioned anomalies such as 45 names registered under one roof. “We must reflect on how we won Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra but lost the Assembly,” he said.
Congress highlights Telangana welfare gains under Revanth Reddy
Goud praised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for backing a caste-based census and implementing BC reservations. “Revanth Reddy acted decisively with the BC bill,” he noted. He also pointed to the launch of subsidised fine rice and a revived housing scheme under the Indiramma model. “For a decade, people were duped with empty promises. Now, homes are being built with real intent,” he said.
According to Goud, Congress policies directly respond to public needs. “This is governance with substance, not slogans,” he asserted.
Rahul Gandhi’s yatra signals people-first politics, says Goud
Goud also praised Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, calling it a sincere effort to understand real India. “He connects with people, listens, and fights for their future,” he said. Wrapping up his speech, Goud set out Congress’s vision for Telangana. He said the party was focused on building a globally competitive state rooted in justice. “We are here to deliver growth—not lip service,” he concluded.
