Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at the Yadadri Power Plant located in Damaracherla, Nalgonda district. Flames erupted accidentally in the first unit of the plant during the early hours of Monday.
At around 1:00 a.m., oil leaked from the boiler in the first unit, and welding work being carried out nearby ignited the leaked oil. The fire quickly spread throughout the unit, leading to massive flames. Upon receiving information, fire service personnel rushed to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire. Timely action helped prevent a major disaster.
As a result of the incident, electricity production of 600 megawatts was halted. Notably, the fire broke out while the unit was being prepared for a trial run.
It is worth recalling that on 14 February this year, another accident occurred at the Yadadri Power Plant. At that time, six workers were severely injured when hot ash fell at the Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) near the ash plant.
While 800 megawatts of electricity were being generated from the plant’s second unit, an ash jam at the ESP led to a tripping and a boiler shutdown. During efforts to clear the jam, hot ash suddenly fell, causing serious injuries to six workers.
