Hyderabad: Congress MP from Nagarkurnool, Dr. Mallu Ravi, on Tuesday accused the BJP-led Modi government of “murdering democracy in full view of Parliament.” He said even during Question Hour, opposition MPs were denied the chance to ask questions.
Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, Ravi said the Congress had demanded a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision process in Bihar, but the government had not responded. He alleged that ministers avoided answering any questions raised by Congress MPs.
Ravi said that when the Lok Sabha convened, Congress MPs insisted on a debate. Instead, the government adjourned proceedings and reconvened later in the day to pass bills of its choice. He questioned how democracy could function if opposition MPs were not allowed to speak on laws meant for the public.
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ravi said, “The watchman has turned into a thief,” accusing him of stealing votes. He claimed such authoritarian governance had not been seen even in monarchical times.
Ravi expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc would win the upcoming elections, calling this the BJP’s last term in power. He stressed that the Congress party’s mission was to protect democracy. “Only if Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister will the Constitution be safe,” he said.
