Hyderabad: A night of torrential rain turned deadly in Hyderabad’s Suraram locality, where a 40-year-old man lost his life after slipping into an open drain.
The man, Padma Rao, is believed to have fallen into the uncovered channel late on Tuesday while navigating through the rain-slicked streets. The force of the water swept him away before anyone could intervene.
Locals, alarmed by the incident, quickly contacted the police. Emergency services launched a search operation and later recovered Rao’s body. Police said they are also looking into whether he may have been intoxicated at the time.
A formal case has been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
The tragic episode has once again raised serious concerns over the city’s infrastructure, particularly the risks posed by open drains during the monsoon season.
