HYDERABAD: A Maoist was shot dead in an encounter with security forces on Saturday morning during a combing operation in Chhattisgarh’s Gariyaband district, officials confirmed.
Security personnel, including local police, launched a search operation in the dense Dandakaranya forest based on intelligence regarding Maoist movements near Karrigutta. As the forces advanced, they came under fire from Maoist operatives. The security teams responded swiftly, triggering a brief but intense gunfight.
During the exchange, one Maoist was killed on the spot. According to Gariyaband Superintendent of Police Nikhil Ashok Kumar Rakhecha, weapons and other critical items were recovered from the scene.
SP Rakhecha stated that combing operations were still underway in the region and further encounters could not be ruled out as security forces continue their sweep of the area.
