HYDERABAD: In a significant development, Maoist leader Vanjam Kesha, also known as Jinni, has surrendered to Warangal Police Commissioner Amber Kishore Jha. A member of the Maoist Guttikoya Area Committee, Kesha had been active in Maoist operations since 2017.
Kesha hails from Rasapalli village in Pamed mandal, Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. She became involved in the Maoist movement through Chaitanya Natya Mandali, eventually being recruited by local squad commander Gotte Kamala. Over time, she assumed various roles within the organization, including serving in the protection group of Maoist Central Committee member Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy (Kosa). In 2021, she was elevated to an Area Committee member and remained active in North Bastar division.
Involvement in Attacks on Security Forces
Kesha was allegedly involved in multiple attacks on security forces, particularly in the Kohilabeda police station area and the Abujhmad region, which resulted in police casualties. Her father, Hidma, was also a Maoist operative and is currently imprisoned.
The Telangana government had placed a Rs 4 lakh reward on her, reflecting the seriousness of her alleged activities.
Reasons Behind Surrender
According to Warangal Police Commissioner Jha, Kesha decided to surrender due to several factors, including:
– Telangana government’s rehabilitation schemes for surrendered Maoists
– Assurances of safety from law enforcement agencies
– Growing public resistance to Maoist activities
– Her deteriorating health condition
The surrender of Vanjam Kesha is seen as a major breakthrough for security forces, as authorities continue their efforts to counter Maoist influence in Telangana and neighboring states.
