Kothagudem: In a significant development under the government’s anti-Maoist drive, Muchaki Unga alias Kishore, a member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee’s 1st Platoon, 1st Company of the CPI (Maoist), surrendered before the Andhra Pradesh police and CRPF officials.

The 21-year-old cadre, hailing from Sukma district in Chhattisgarh, laid down arms before Alluri Sitarama Raju district Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar, CRPF 212 Bn Commandant Deepak Kumar Srivastav, and Additional SP (Operations) Jagadeesh Adahalli.

Unga joined the Maoist ranks in July 2020 at the age of 17, beginning as a dalam member with the Kistaram area committee. In August 2021, he was made a personal guard to the North Sub-Zonal Military in-charge Ramder alias Beeju and later transferred to the elite 1st Company 1st Platoon in January 2022.

During his time in the outfit, Unga was reportedly involved in several violent incidents. Officials stated that his decision to surrender came after prolonged disillusionment with the Maoist ideology and lifestyle.

Under the surrender and rehabilitation policy, he is eligible for a ₹1 lakh reward that had been declared over his head by the Chhattisgarh government.

The event was attended by CRPF 212 Battalion Second-in-Command Dinesh Kumar, Yetapaka CI M. Kannaparaju, SI G. Appalaraju, and other senior officers.
