LUCKNOW: In a startling incident from Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, a married couple – both parents to several children—eloped and married each other, leaving their families in disbelief. The matter came to public attention after the couple shared their wedding photographs on social media.
Geeta, a mother of five, and Gopal, who has four children, are both residents of Mahariya village. The two reportedly developed an extramarital relationship, which led to them abandoning their respective spouses and children to elope approximately a week ago. On 5 April, Gopal confirmed their marriage by posting wedding photos on his Facebook profile.
Geeta’s husband, Srichand, has alleged that she fled with ₹90,000 in cash and household jewellery. He stated that he has informed the police regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, Gopal’s wife responded emotionally, declaring that he is now “dead to her” and demanded that he continue to provide financial support for their children. “He can live wherever he wants, but he must provide for the children’s maintenance,” she said.
Local police in Siddharthnagar have reportedly confirmed they are aware of the elopement and subsequent marriage, but mentioned that no formal complaints have yet been filed. Authorities stated that appropriate action would be taken should any of the affected families choose to register an official complaint.
