HYDERABAD: A heart-wrenching incident occurred in the Medak district, where a woman attempted to end her life along with her two children by jumping into a canal. While the mother survived, both her daughters tragically drowned.
The Medak suicide incident took place in Dantanpalli village under Shivvampet mandal. Vaddepalli Mamatha, a native of the village, was married to Swami from Masaipet. The couple had two daughters, Pooja (7) and Tejaswini (5).
Two years ago, Swami passed away due to ill health, leaving Mamatha solely responsible for raising the children. Struggling with severe financial difficulties since her husband’s death, Mamatha reportedly found it increasingly hard to cope.
Unable to bear the burden, she decided to take her own life along with her children. On Monday morning, Mamatha took her daughters to Haldivagu canal on the outskirts of Islampur and pushed them into the water before jumping in herself.
However, after jumping in, she is said to have changed her mind and attempted to save her children. Unfortunately, by the time she tried to rescue them, the girls had already drowned.
Hearing her cries for help, local residents rushed to the scene and managed to rescue Mamatha. They alerted the police, who arrived at the location and recovered the bodies of the children.
Police are investigating the incident.
