Hyderabad: Medipally Police of Rachakonda Commissionerate arrested a 27-year-old man for brutally murdering his pregnant wife, dismembering her body, and disposing of the remains in the Musi River. The accused, Samala Mahender Reddy, a Rapido rider from Boduppal, was arrested shortly after committing the gruesome act.
According to police, Mahender married Swathi, 21, through a love-cum-arranged marriage in January 2024. The couple, both originally from the same village in Vikarabad district, had moved to Hyderabad and settled in Boduppal. Initial months were peaceful, but frequent quarrels followed due to domestic issues.
In April 2024, Swathi filed a complaint against Mahender under IPC Section 498-A and the Dowry Prohibition Act at the Vikarabad Women’s Police Station. Though the matter was later settled through a village panchayat, tensions persisted. In March 2025, Swathi became pregnant, but arguments continued.
On August 22, 2025, Swathi informed Mahender that she planned to visit her parents for a medical check-up. Mahender opposed the idea, leading to a heated argument. That evening, he decided to kill her.
Police said Mahender purchased a grip Axa blade in advance and kept it hidden. On August 23 at around 4:30 PM, he throttled Swathi to death. He then used the blade to cut her body into pieces, dumping her head, hands, and legs in the Musi River at Prathapsingaram. He kept the torso in their house to avoid suspicion.
Under the direction of Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu and DCP Malkajgiri P.V. Padmaja, Medipally police led by SHO R. Govinda Reddy and SI A. Narsing Rao cracked the case through intensive investigation.
