Hyderabad, January 29: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for imposing an interest burden of Rs 11,145 crore on farmers by not implementing the promised Rs 1 lakh loan waiver in a single instalment. He made these remarks during a review meeting with officials at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
Rao emphasised that the current government believes that the state’s prosperity is linked to the well-being of its farmers. He highlighted that 35% of the state budget has been allocated to agriculture and its allied sectors to support this belief.
In the same meeting, the minister directed officials to complete the oil palm processing unit in Narmetta, Siddipet district, by June 1. He also instructed them to initiate the tender process and commence construction of processing factories in Beechpalli and Kalluru Gudem. Rao noted that these initiatives would benefit farmers in new districts cultivating oil palm and encourage others to take up oil palm cultivation.
Furthermore, he advised that the land allocated by the government should be transferred to the company’s name, fenced appropriately, and skilled personnel should be appointed in various departments to operate the units efficiently.
