HYDERABAD: Minister Konda Surekha did not appear in court on Thursday for the hearing of the criminal defamation case filed by actor Akkineni Nagarjuna. The court of public representatives accepted the absence petition submitted on her behalf and postponed the hearing to March 6. The court also ordered her to submit sureties by that date.
The court’s order stated that a penalty would be imposed if the sureties were not provided. Lawyers representing both parties submitted absence petitions. The court is set to proceed with the trial based on evidence submitted regarding alleged inappropriate remarks made by Konda Surekha at a media conference held at Bapu Ghat in Langar Houz last year.
The court has recorded the statement given by Akkineni Nagarjuna, along with the testimony of Yarlagadda Supriya. Additionally, a pen drive containing media reports and social media footage related to her speech on the demolition of N Convention Hall was submitted as evidence. Newspaper clippings covering the incident were also presented. Taking these evidences into account, the court is continuing its proceedings.
