Hyderabad, February 7: Transport & BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reiterated the Congress government’s commitment to the caste census. He stated that leaders of caste associations would be briefed on the census details and urged people not to believe misconceptions about the survey report.
Addressing the media in Karimnagar on Friday, the Minister criticised Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders for ridiculing the survey while not participating in it. He demanded that they apologise to the backward classes for their stance. He also remarked that individuals who did not take part in the census should refrain from commenting on it.
Prabhakar further questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its opposition to the caste census, referencing the central government’s affidavit against conducting such a survey. He accused the BJP of following a feudalistic approach and claimed that while the demand for a caste census has existed since independence, it has not been implemented until now.
He affirmed that the current government has completed the caste census process and is prepared to allocate 42% of seats to backward classes. He also noted that Rahul Gandhi has been advocating for a nationwide caste census.
