HYDERABAD, February 13: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, labelling it as a party primarily serving business interests. He alleged that the BJP favours industrialists such as Adani and Ambani, questioning their understanding of reservations implemented for the underprivileged. Prabhakar also pointed out that the BJP has officially opposed reservations in court affidavits.
Addressing the media, Prabhakar highlighted the comprehensive caste census conducted by the Telangana government, describing it as a model for the nation. He noted that the state-wide family survey was meticulously carried out under continuous official supervision, ensuring the inclusion of all communities. He asserted that there is no dissatisfaction among Backward Classes (BCs) regarding the survey and accused opposition parties of deliberately creating unwarranted confusion among the public.
Prabhakar clarified that the government has decided to conduct an additional survey for those who missed the initial enumeration, specifying that this is not a resurvey but an opportunity for participation until 28 February. He criticised Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders for making arbitrary comments about the survey, stating that those who did not participate have no right to question the government.
Furthermore, Prabhakar announced plans to hold a special meeting to discuss implementing 42% BC reservations in local body elections, aligning with public aspirations. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing reservations that reflect the desires of the populace.
