HYDERABAD: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has appealed to RTC workers not to proceed with their proposed strike, assuring them that the state government is fully committed to addressing their grievances.
The minister held a meeting in Hyderabad with representatives of the Telangana RTC Joint Action Committee (TGRTC JAC), amid mounting concerns over labour unrest within the transport corporation. During the discussion, Ponnam urged the workers to exercise restraint and avoid disrupting public transport services through industrial action.
Speaking after the meeting, Ponnam stated, “I respectfully request all RTC workers not to go on strike. The Chief Minister and I are fully prepared to engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve your problems. Our government is open and responsive to your needs.”
The appeal comes at a critical time, as discontent among RTC employees has been growing over wage issues, service conditions, and demands for the implementation of various pending assurances. Although the union has not yet finalised strike dates, the tone of the discussion suggests that a walkout could severely affect transport services across the state.
Minister Ponnam reiterated that the government views RTC workers as essential stakeholders in public service and is willing to work in coordination with unions to find amicable solutions. He emphasised that unnecessary disruption can be avoided through constructive negotiations.
With the JAC yet to announce its final decision, all eyes are now on the outcome of continued talks between the state and the unions.
