Hyderabad: Telangana SC, ST, and Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar urged the Centre to raise pre-matric scholarships from 60% to 75%.
He requested a video conference on Thursday with Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar and state welfare ministers. The meeting was held under the Viksit Bharat 2047 programme.
Lakshman Kumar joined the session from the state secretariat. He also sought central funds for constructing modern hostels and requested special allocations for women’s hostels.
Pre-matric scholarships hike among wider demands
The minister asked the Centre to extend financial support to SC families under the Indiramma housing scheme. He highlighted that elderly pensions remain very low. Citizens aged 68 to 79 receive only ₹200 per month, while those above 80 get ₹500. He pressed for an increase in both categories.
