Hyderabad: IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said the Telangana government remains committed to supporting low-income families by providing free monthly rice worth ₹1,200 per household through the public distribution system.
He made the statement on Tuesday during a ration card distribution event at YAR Gardens in Mallapur, Balapur mandal, Maheshwaram constituency. As the Ranga Reddy district in-charge, Sridhar Babu said the government is issuing new ration cards to all eligible households, even while spending ₹61.15 crore every month.
He confirmed that 12,000 new ration cards have been issued in the district. These will benefit over 50,000 individuals who now qualify for subsidized rice.
He also highlighted earlier efforts to bring Krishna water to Hyderabad and said the current government is planning to tap Godavari water for the city. In addition, the state is encouraging industrial investment in the region to create jobs for local youth. So far, the administration has provided over 65,000 government jobs across Telangana, he claimed.
Chief Whip Patnam Mahender Reddy, also present at the event, said ration card distribution would continue in phases. He promised to include all eligible households in the coming months. He also spoke about interest-free loans and training programmes for women through the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme.
Sridhar Babu personally handed out ration cards to families from Maheshwaram and Balapur mandals. Later, he joined beneficiaries for a community meal.
District Additional Collector Chandrareddy, MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy, TUFIDC Chairman Challa Narasimha Reddy, Market Committee Chairman Yadayya, Kandukur RDO Rajeshwar Reddy, and former MLA Kichannagari Lakshma Reddy were also present at the event.
