Ministers inspect ashram school, stress on menu-based meals for students

Hyderabad: Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakkati Sridhar on Sunday made an unannounced visit to the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Ashram School in Jangampalli village, Bhikkanur mandal, Kamareddy district. On their way to a party meeting in Kamareddy, they took the opportunity to personally inspect the conditions at the state-run residential school.

During the visit, the ministers interacted directly with students to understand their daily routines and learning environment. They asked whether meals were being served according to the official weekly menu and if the food was adequate and nutritious. Students were encouraged to speak honestly about any issues. The ministers firmly told the school staff to follow the menu without fail, stressing that every child deserves healthy food.

In addition to food concerns, the ministers looked into the academic progress. They questioned teachers about how much of the syllabus had been completed and whether classroom teaching was effective. They also highlighted the need to involve students in sports and other activities for their overall growth.

Health and hygiene were another focus. The ministers instructed school authorities to conduct health check-ups for all girl students without delay. “Good health is just as important as good education,” one of them said, urging early medical care whenever needed.

Ponnam Prabhakar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving ashram schools. “We are serious about supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds,” he said. Vakkati Sridhar added that surprise inspections help identify problems and ensure accountability.

School principal Srilatha and the teaching staff joined the ministers during the visit. Officials said such inspections help close the gap between government policies and on-the-ground implementation.

The ministers assured students that their feedback would be taken seriously and promised to return for follow-up checks soon.
