Hyderabad: With the Miss World Heritage Walk scheduled for today, Hyderabad police have gone on high alert around Charminar and nearby areas in the Old City.
A special dinner at the Chowmohalla Palace and a high-profile heritage walk from Charminar have brought heavy security to the heart of the Old City. Police cordoned off a wide perimeter and enforced a strict no-drone zone across a three-kilometre radius. Surveillance and barricades were visible across Madina, Charminar, Shalibanda, Volga Junction, and Khilwat roads—completely shut to vehicles from 2 PM to 11 PM.
Commuters were advised to use alternate routes as traffic restrictions kicked in for the evening, with officers urging residents to plan travel in advance.
The event is part of Telangana Tourism’s showcase for Miss World contestants, who are touring Hyderabad’s iconic sites. Participants are set to explore the historic Charminar, visit Chowmohalla Palace, and walk through the bustling Lad Bazaar.
The state has also spruced up the Charminar zone, with a burst of lights and decoration aimed at highlighting local craft. Special arrangements have been made for contestants to shop bangles and jewellery from select stores in Lad Bazaar—a nod to Hyderabad’s rich artisan culture.
