Miss World contestants to visit Telangana’s Pochampally handloom village on May 15

Hyderabad: As part of the Miss World 2024 festivities, Group 2 contestants will head to the iconic handloom village of Pochampally in Telangana on May 15 for a hands-on experience of India’s celebrated textile traditions.

The visit aims to introduce the international beauty ambassadors to India’s local artistry, handcrafts, and centuries-old weaving practices. Recognised by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as one of the best tourism villages in the world, Pochampally is the beating heart of Telangana’s handloom legacy.

Globally known for its intricate ikat patterns and fine-quality saris, the village stands as a symbol of cultural pride and skilled craftsmanship. During their visit, the Miss World contestants will interact with local weavers, witness traditional weaving techniques up close, and even try their hand at the loom. They’ll also immerse themselves in the village’s art, heritage, and community life.

Officials see this initiative as a unique cultural exchange that not only showcases Telangana’s craftsmanship on a global platform but also uplifts local artisans. By placing Pochampally in the spotlight, organisers hope to draw more tourism and appreciation toward India’s handloom industry one that has long shaped the identity of the region.
