Hyderabad: Hyderabad has been placed on high alert ahead of the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant, with police implementing heightened security measures across the city. Following recent terror threats, including the Pahalgam attack, authorities are taking no chances as delegates and contestants from 120 countries converge on the city for the international event.
So far, participation from 116 countries has been confirmed. Julia Evelyn Morley, Chairperson and CEO of Miss World Limited, arrived in Hyderabad on Sunday and received a ceremonial welcome at Shamshabad Airport. She is now personally overseeing the ongoing preparations.
As part of the event itinerary, a heritage walk will take place on May 13, covering historic landmarks including Charminar, Laad Bazaar, Moti Galli, and Chowmahalla Palace. In view of this, armed security forces will take control of these areas a day in advance. Only pre-verified jewellery and bangle shops selected for visibility during the event will be permitted to remain open. Identification cards will be issued to shop owners and workers, and access will be strictly controlled for those without valid credentials.
On the evening of May 13, a cultural showcase and welcome dinner will be held at Chowmahalla Palace, where security will be further intensified. All event staff and participants will be required to carry identification, and the palace grounds will be thoroughly inspected in advance. The state government is treating the dinner event as a high-profile diplomatic showcase.
The cultural itinerary continues on May 14, with contestants scheduled to visit the Ramappa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There, they will witness a traditional performance of Perini Shivathandavam, Telangana’s iconic warrior dance. DGP Dr Jitender has directed Warangal police officials to ensure robust security at the site.
On May 15, the itinerary includes visits to Yadagirigutta and the renowned handloom hub Pochampally, with Rachakonda and Nalgonda police instructed to remain on high alert. Contestants are also expected to tour Buddhavanam, a Buddhist heritage site in Nalgonda district.
Given the scale and global attention surrounding the Miss World event, all three police commissionerates in Hyderabad have intensified surveillance. Special focus is being placed on accommodations hosting contestants, international media, and world-renowned photographers.
Authorities are conducting layered checks to ensure seamless execution, with a “zero-tolerance for error” approach. Officials view this event as an opportunity to present Hyderabad and Telangana on a global stage, not just for beauty, but for security, culture, and hospitality.
