HYDERABAD: Preparations for the prestigious Miss World pageant in Hyderabad took a tragic turn on Thursday, when a young worker lost his life after being electrocuted near the Gachibowli Stadium—the site of the event’s grand opening ceremony.
The mishap occurred during ongoing electric works near a flyover close to the stadium, where final arrangements were underway under the supervision of the State Department of Tourism. The worker reportedly received a fatal electric shock and died on the spot. Authorities have yet to release full details about the incident, and an investigation is underway.
The Miss World Organisation has confirmed that the global beauty pageant will be hosted in Hyderabad from May 7 to 31. The opening ceremony is set to take place at Gachibowli Stadium, which is currently being prepped to welcome contestants and international dignitaries.
The event will culminate in the Miss World Finale on May 31, following nearly a month of competitions, cultural showcases, and public engagements. Winners of the pageant are scheduled to meet Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at Raj Bhavan on June 2, coinciding with the state’s Formation Day.
While the city had been gearing up to host the high-profile event with great enthusiasm, Thursday’s accident has cast a shadow over the celebrations. Authorities are now under pressure to ensure safety measures are strictly enforced during the remainder of the preparations.
