HYDERABAD: Congress MLA Gandra Satyanarayana has raised serious concerns over the failed irrigation system in Bhimganpur, stating that despite spending ₹220 crore, not a single acre has received water.
Speaking on the issue, the MLA revealed that 5,000 acres of farmland are currently at risk due to a lack of electricity supply. Without immediate action, crops on these lands could dry up completely. However, if proper electricity facilities are provided, at least 3,000 acres could be brought under irrigation.
Gandra Satyanarayana demanded the cancellation of the previous contractor’s agreement and strict action against those responsible for the project’s failure. He also emphasized the need to construct a check dam, which, if implemented, could bring 58,000 acres of land under irrigation.
Calling for accountability, the MLA urged the government to conduct a thorough inquiry into the previous ₹220 crore expenditure, ensuring that those responsible for the mismanagement face legal consequences.
His statements highlight the urgent need for corrective measures to improve irrigation facilities and prevent further losses for farmers in the region.
