HYDERABAD: During a recent session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, Bhupalapally MLA Gandra Satyanarayana Rao called for a comprehensive investigation into the murder of social activist Nagavelli Rajalingamurthy. The MLA highlighted that Rajalingamurthy had approached the court regarding the subsidence issues of the Medigadda Barrage, constructed during the previous administration. He alleged that the activist faced intimidation, including the filing of SC/ST cases against him, as a result of his legal actions.
MLA Satyanarayana Rao further noted that Rajalingamurthy had reported threats to his life to the police. Despite these warnings, the activist was brutally murdered in February 2025. The MLA pointed out that Kotha Haribabu, a former vice-chairman of the Bhupalapally municipality and close associate of former MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy, is currently incarcerated as a suspect in the case. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to ensure justice.
Additionally, Satyanarayana Rao accused the previous BRS government of misusing police support to file cases against several Congress mandal leaders and councilors. He reiterated the importance of protecting individuals who challenge corruption and ensuring that political influence does not hinder justice.
Rajalingamurthy’s wife has publicly alleged that former Bhupalapally MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy orchestrated her husband’s murder, further intensifying calls for a detailed inquiry into the case.
