HYDERABAD, February 9: Kadiyam Srihari, who was elected as an MLA from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the 2023 Assembly elections and later joined the Congress party, has declared his readiness to face potential by-elections. This statement comes in response to recent Supreme Court notices issued in connection with the party defections.
The BRS leadership had approached the Supreme Court regarding the defection of several MLAs to the Congress. Following this, the Court issued notices to the defected legislators. In light of these developments, BRS leaders have been urging their cadre to prepare for imminent by-elections.
Addressing the situation, Srihari stated that he would respect the Court’s judgment and is fully prepared to contest in any ensuing by-elections. He emphasized that he has no intention of evading the electoral process.
Furthermore, Srihari criticized the BRS’s stance on defections, pointing out that over the past decade, the party has inducted 36 MLAs from other parties and even appointed some as ministers. He also commented on the recent Delhi Assembly election results, attributing the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) defeat to the BRS. He noted that the Chief Minister and two others were incarcerated due to the liquor scam. Srihari suggested that had the AAP and Congress contested together in Delhi, the outcomes might have been different, and recommended that the Congress party review these results.
These developments underscore the ongoing political dynamics in Telangana, with parties preparing for potential electoral contests amidst legal and political challenges.
