HYDERABAD: MLC Kavitha has criticized the Congress government’s implementation of the BC Caste Census in Telangana, describing it as chaotic and disorganized. Speaking at a BC Associations Round Table Meeting in Kamareddy, she expressed concerns that the census has led to a reduction in the recorded population of Backward Classes (BCs) and highlighted the deteriorating conditions of those engaged in traditional occupations.
Kavitha emphasized that during the decade-long governance of the BRS party, significant importance was given to BC communities and their traditional professions. She noted that in the separate Telangana state, political prominence was accorded to BCs, with opportunities provided in nominated positions such as Rajya Sabha, MLCs, and corporations. She also recalled that under KCR’s leadership, BC individuals were appointed to key roles, including Osmania University Vice-Chancellor, Advocate General, and Intelligence Officer.
She demanded that the census data be made accessible to village panchayats and presented in the Assembly. Additionally, she called for the Dedication Committee’s report to be made public to ensure transparency and reflect the current situation accurately.
