BRS MLC Kavitha accused CM Revanth Reddy of spreading false information about Telangana’s debt and revenue, citing CAG data to challenge his claims on state finances.
HYDERABAD: BRS MLC Kavitha has accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of disseminating inaccurate information regarding Telangana’s debt and revenue. She asserted that the Chief Minister lacks a proper understanding of the state’s financial matters and is misleading the public with false propaganda.
Kavitha refuted Revanth Reddy’s claims made during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he allegedly stated that Telangana pays ₹6,500 crore in monthly interest due to debts incurred under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). Citing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report for 2024-25, she clarified that the state had paid only ₹22,000 crore in interest over ten months, averaging ₹2,600 crore per month. She criticised Reddy for repeatedly claiming that Telangana’s total debt stands at ₹7 lakh crore without substantiating it with factual data.
Addressing Telangana’s revenue, Kavitha pointed out discrepancies in Reddy’s statements. She claimed that while the Chief Minister mentioned an income of ₹18,000 crore during his Delhi visit, the state’s actual average revenue is ₹12,000 crore. She questioned the basis for these figures and expressed surprise at his assertions of repaying debts that, according to her, do not exist.
Kavitha attributed the decline in state revenue to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), noting that revenue from stamps and registrations had dropped from an estimated ₹18,000 crore to ₹5,800 crore. She criticised the continued demolition of houses in areas like Malakpet, arguing that such actions damage Hyderabad’s brand image.
On the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project, Kavitha dismissed allegations that negligence under KCR’s administration led to recent tunnel accidents. She recalled that KCR had informed an all-party delegation, led by then-opposition leader Jana Reddy, about technical challenges delaying the project. She noted that while only ₹3,340 crore was spent on the SLBC project over three decades, KCR’s government allocated ₹3,890 crore within ten years, leading to the excavation of an 11.5-kilometre tunnel. She questioned the logic behind Revanth Reddy’s claims of government inaction despite these investments.
Kavitha also criticised the Chief Minister for prioritising election campaigns and visits to Delhi over addressing the SLBC tunnel accident, where eight individuals remain trapped near his home district. She contrasted his approach with that of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who remained on-site until rescue operations concluded during a similar tunnel incident.
Further, Kavitha alleged that both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress were conspiring to weaken the BRS, which she claimed was actively fighting for Telangana’s rights. She urged the public to be aware of these alleged political strategies and stand against them.
In response to Revanth Reddy’s remarks about Union Minister Kishan Reddy obstructing fund acquisition, Kavitha suggested that the Chief Minister and the BJP share a collaborative relationship, working together against the BRS. She cited instances where Congress and BJP leaders had supported each other in elections, implying a coordinated effort to undermine her party.
Kavitha called for public vigilance against what she described as conspiracies targeting the BRS and its leadership. She urged unity in resisting these challenges and reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for Telangana’s development and welfare.
