Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Saturday inaugurated the Mobile Migration Support Centre (m-MRC) in Hyderabad, aimed at extending targeted services to rural migrant families in Telangana. The initiative is backed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The mobile unit will offer information, guidance, and field-level support to vulnerable groups migrating to Nizamabad and Narayanpet districts. The facility is designed to assist families before, during, and after migration, with a focus on improving rural livelihoods.
Speaking at the launch, the minister called for optimal utilisation of the mobile unit. He urged officials to deliver virtual training sessions on soil testing, organic farming, and animal husbandry. Rao proposed the use of the vehicle for mobile soil sampling and veterinary services in remote areas.
He also highlighted the potential of the initiative to support women in migrant households, who are often left behind during seasonal migration. “This unit will help empower women in villages through direct outreach,” he said, acknowledging the efforts of UN partner organisations.
The event was attended by Agriculture Director Dr B. Gopi, FAO Agribusiness Specialist Jaganmohan Reddy, IOM State Coordinator Jalaja, NWWT President Sister Lissie Joseph, and members of the implementation team.
