Hyderabad: Monsoon showers have arrived ahead of schedule in Telangana, soaking large swaths of the state and prompting storm alerts in multiple districts. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a deep depression brewing in the Bay of Bengal has now strengthened into a cyclonic system, driving the surge in rainfall.
The southwest monsoon has now completely covered the state. Over the next three days, several parts of Telangana are expected to receive heavy rain, with thunderstorms and lightning likely in many areas.
According to officials, intense rainfall is on the cards today for Mulugu, Bhupalpally, and Khammam. Additionally, districts such as Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar could witness strong winds and thunder along with downpours.
Wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kilometres per hour across the state, the department added. Authorities have urged the public to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
Meteorologists say this year’s early and widespread monsoon rains in Telangana could result in a higher seasonal rainfall total compared to previous years.
