Hyderabad, February 4: A man addicted to alcohol and drugs allegedly killed his mother in a brutal attack and dumped her body in nearby bushes before fleeing the scene. The incident took place in Mahadevpeta village of Bijnapally mandal, Nagar Kurnool district, and came to light late after locals noticed a foul smell and alerted the police.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Karunakar (25), was the son of Yadamma (55), who was one of the two wives of a local resident, Late Uttayya. Both wives lived separately in small huts and worked as daily wage laborers.
Three days ago, Karunakar, who was reportedly addicted to alcohol and marijuana, got into a heated argument with his mother over money for alcohol. When she refused to give him money, he allegedly attacked her in a drunken rage, slamming her against a wall. Yadamma succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
In an attempt to hide his crime, Karunakar dragged his mother’s body to a nearby bush and fled. The body remained there for three days, during which stray animals partially mutilated it. Locals noticed the strong odor and informed the police.
Upon investigation, the police recovered the decomposed body and sent it to the district general hospital for a post-mortem examination. Karunakar returned to the scene later, where he was taken into custody. Following a complaint from his father, Uttayya, the accused was remanded on Tuesday, according to Nagar Kurnool CI Kanakaiah.
