HYDERABAD: In a heart-wrenching incident from Jangaon district, a mother, overwhelmed by despair, pleaded for either assistance or mercy killing for her disabled son. The emotional episode unfolded at the Jangaon collector office, drawing tears from bystanders.
The woman, Lakshmi, has been taking care of her son—who was born physically disabled with deformed hands and legs—for nearly 30 years, treating him like the apple of her eye. Despite her hardships, she worked as a daily wage labourer to support them. However, with government welfare schemes failing to reach her in recent times, her life has become increasingly burdensome.
Seeking aid, Lakshmi visited the Jangaon collector office along with her son. When no official came forward to listen to her plight, she broke down in tears. She lamented that the ₹4,000 monthly pension her son receives is not even sufficient to cover the cost of diapers. She further complained that they had not been allotted an Indiramma housing scheme benefit, nor had they received the zero electricity bill benefit.
Questioning the system, she asked whether daily wage labourers like her were not eligible for government schemes. In a heart-rending plea, she cried out, “Either help us or kill my son,” within the premises of the collector office.
The scene left many locals in tears. A bystander captured the moment on video and posted it on social media, where it quickly went viral. Netizens have been tagging Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and other officials, urging immediate intervention and justice for the distressed family.
