Hyderabad: Congress staged a protest on Parliament premises Tuesday, demanding discussion on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack during the ongoing Monsoon Session.
Speaking to the media during the demonstration, Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna criticised the BJP’s conduct and targeted the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive in Bihar. He alleged the process was a tool of political manipulation, calling it a “symbol of BJP’s petty politics and authoritarianism.”
Vamsi Krishna accused the BJP of selectively targeting its voter base through the SIR process. “Why wasn’t this method used in the general election?” he asked, calling on the public to note the Election Commission’s alleged bias in favour of the ruling party.
He pointed to the Supreme Court’s query over the necessity of SIR despite existing voter ID mechanisms like Aadhaar, framing the move as undemocratic and warning that similar drives could follow in other states. “Congress opposes this approach and urges others to do the same,” he said.
MP Vamsi Krishna also condemned the denial of floor time to Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday. He said Gandhi had pressed for a discussion on Operation Sindoor but was not allowed to speak. “Is this democracy or dictatorship?” he asked, citing it as a reason behind the protest. He said Congress would continue to fight under Gandhi’s leadership to protect democratic values.
Commenting on Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation, Vamshikrishna expressed surprise. “He spoke actively in the morning session and quit by evening citing health. It looks like the BJP uses people when needed and discards them after,” he said.
