HYDERABAD, February 8: As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) moves towards forming the government in Delhi, marking its return after approximately 27 years, BJP Member of Parliament Raghunandan Rao has offered sharp criticism to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He contends that AAP, which initially positioned itself as an anti-corruption entity, became embroiled in significant scandals during its 12-year tenure, leading to public disillusionment. Rao specifically pointed to the involvement of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and other ministers in various scams as pivotal factors in the electorate’s decision to move away from AAP.
Rao further highlighted that the BJP’s success in the current election is largely due to the support from economically disadvantaged groups and the middle class. He accused the AAP government of neglecting central government schemes, focusing solely on state initiatives, which, according to him, deprived Delhi residents of broader benefits.
Turning his attention to the Congress party, Rao remarked that it failed to secure any seats in the Delhi elections. He also predicted a similar fate for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the upcoming general elections in Telangana, suggesting that the BRS is likely to face significant losses. Rao pointed out that despite the issuance of notifications for the Member of Legislative Council elections, the BRS has yet to announce its candidates, implying internal challenges within the party.
These comments from MP Raghunandan Rao come in the context of the BJP’s significant lead in the Delhi Assembly elections, where it is ahead in 46 out of 70 seats, while AAP leads in 24 constituencies.
