Hyderabad: Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) founder-president Manda Krishna Madiga on Wednesday demanded that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy resign if the Telangana government fails to increase pensions for disabled persons.
Addressing a preparatory meeting in Neredmet for the planned ‘Divyangula Mahagarjana’ protest on August 13 at LB Stadium, Madiga accused the Congress government of failing to implement election promises nearly 20 months into its tenure. He called for an immediate hike in monthly pensions to ₹15,000 for muscular dystrophy patients and demanded inclusion of thousands of disabled individuals who have been awaiting pension disbursal for four to five years.
Madiga criticised both the ruling party and the opposition for their silence. “In Andhra Pradesh, these promises are being fulfilled. Why not in Telangana?” he asked. He also reminded the gathering that flagship welfare measures like Arogyasri, pensions for senior citizens and widows, and subsidised rice schemes were all outcomes of MRPS-led agitations.
The MRPS leader warned that if the government continues to ignore disabled communities, the August 13 protest would be held on a massive scale. He urged disabled citizens and their families to join the agitation in large numbers.
Vinay Kumar and other MRPS activists participated in the meeting.
