Hyderabad: A man was murdered by his own family members in Mulugu district, who then attempted to stage the crime as a suicide. Police uncovered the truth after suspicion arose during the inquiry, leading the victim’s father, elder brother, and uncle to surrender.
Family plotted murder over debts and addiction
The incident took place on September 7 in Lakshmidevipet of Venkatapur mandal. According to police, Durga Surayya of Mulugu had divided his four acres of land between his two sons. His younger son, Ashok (40), became addicted to alcohol and betting, sold his share of land, and fell into debt.
Police said Ashok often threatened his parents for money. On the day of the incident, he visited his father and demanded cash. Following an argument, Surayya, along with his elder son Sampath and younger brother Sambayya, strangled Ashok with a rope.
Murder staged as suicide
The accused later transported the body in a car to Ashok’s house in Lakshmidevipet and left it there to make it appear he had committed suicide. The next morning, neighbours noticed Ashok was unresponsive and alerted his wife, relatives, and the police.
Family members initially tried to pass it off as suicide, but investigators grew suspicious. During questioning, Surayya, Sampath, and Sambayya confessed to the crime. Police produced them in court on Wednesday, said SI Challa Raju.
