Mumbai fire

Hyderabad: A massive Mumbai fire broke out in a 24-storey residential tower in Dahisar East’s Shanti Nagar locality on Sunday afternoon. The blaze claimed the life of one woman and left 18 others injured. Among the injured, a four-year-old child remains in critical condition.

According to the fire brigade, the blaze started around 3:00 pm on the seventh floor before spreading rapidly through the building. Initial investigations suggest that faulty wiring in the basement sparked the fire, which travelled upward through the electrical duct. Authorities declared it a Level-2 fire.

Mumbai fire triggers major rescue operation

Thick smoke made rescue operations difficult. Seven fire engines and multiple emergency vehicles were deployed to the scene. Firefighters managed to evacuate 36 residents, many of whom were admitted to nearby hospitals.

One woman admitted to Rohit Hospital later succumbed to her injuries. A differently-abled girl and a child are reported to be in critical condition. Officials said rescue and cooling operations continued late into the evening.
