Hyderabad: Mumbai police unearthed one of the country’s largest drug networks operating out of Telangana, seizing mephedrone worth several crores from a chemical unit near Hyderabad.
The Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police busted the racket after weeks of surveillance and an undercover operation. The factory, located in Cherlapally industrial area, was producing mephedrone (MD) under the cover of a unit registered as “Vagdevi Labs.”
Drugs worth ₹12,000 crore seized
During the raid, police confiscated advanced chemical equipment, drug production units, and more than 32,000 litres of precursor chemicals. They also recovered 100 grams of MD and ₹25 lakh in cash.
At least 12 people, including a foreign national, were arrested. Among those held were factory owner and chemist Srinivas, and his associate Tanaji Pathe.
Network spread across multiple states
Investigators revealed that mephedrone produced in Cherlapally was being supplied to Maharashtra and other states. The factory’s license concealed large-scale narcotics production, making it one of the biggest drug seizures in India.
