HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament, Laxman, has expressed support for the Congress-led Telangana government’s initiative to clean the Musi River. Speaking to the media on Thursday, he stated that the BJP does not oppose the prestigious project aimed at rejuvenating the river. However, he pressed upon the need for the government to provide alternative arrangements for residents living in the Musi catchment areas before proceeding with their relocation.
MP Laxman also predicted the imminent establishment of a “double-engine government” in Telangana, referring to the same party governing both the state and the center. He expressed confidence that the BJP would come to power in the state, citing the unprecedented opposition faced by the current government within just a year of its tenure.
Criticizing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s administration, Laxman accused the government of failing to deliver on its election promises. He mocked the Chief Minister for claiming credit for providing over 50,000 jobs through notifications issued during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime. Laxman alleged that the promise of creating two lakh jobs annually has not been fulfilled, leaving unemployed youth deceived. He also pointed out the absence of a job calendar and the non-implementation of various welfare schemes, including the provision of ₹2,500 to women, increased pensions for the elderly and disabled, Bathukamma sarees, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bharosa, and Dalit Bandhu. According to Laxman, apart from free bus travel for women in RTC buses, no scheme has been fully implemented in the state.
These remarks highlight the BJP’s stance on the state’s developmental projects and the perceived shortcomings of the current government in fulfilling its commitments to the public.
