Hyderabad: Opening of Hussain Sagar’s floodgates to release excess water has sharply increased the flow in the Musi river, forcing traffic diversions in parts of the city. The river is now flowing forcefully past Moosarambagh bridge and Dobi Ghat.
Traffic police diverted vehicles over the Golnaka New Bridge after the surge. Construction of a new bridge alongside Moosarambagh bridge has restricted movement to a single lane on one side. Vehicles from Moosarambagh crossroads towards Amberpet were allowed one-way movement, while vehicles from Amberpet towards Moosarambagh were diverted to the Golnaka New Bridge route.
Musi river flood prompts diversions and monitoring
Officials from the GHMC, Revenue and Irrigation departments have been continuously monitoring the flood situation. Residents said that compared to Friday night, the water flow increased on Saturday morning, and warned that if more gates were lifted, the flood level could rise enough to cross the bridge deck.
The intensified current in the Musi has raised concern among commuters and local authorities, with round-the-clock watch being maintained to respond to further releases from Hussain Sagar.
