Hyderabad: Torrential rains threw Hyderabad into chaos as the Musi River swelled dangerously near the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) area, forcing emergency steps and large‑scale evacuations.
Flood impact at MGBS
The Musi River overflowed across two bridges near MGBS, and officials quickly warned thousands of stranded passengers inside the bus terminal. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed the police, GHMC and Hyderabad officials to move passengers to safety. He reviewed the situation himself at midnight. Teams diverted buses coming from districts and moved out those already inside. MGBS officer Sukhender Reddy said floodwater entered the premises at 8 pm on Friday, which led to the suspension of bus operations.
Officials stopped the entry of buses into MGBS and redirected them to safer points. Buses from Khammam, Nalgonda and Miryalaguda went only up to Dilsukhnagar. Services from Kurnool and Mahbubnagar ended at Aramghar. Buses from Warangal and Hanumakonda stopped at Uppal, while those from Adilabad, Karimnagar and Nizamabad halted at JBS. Officials also shifted pickup points for reserved passengers. Another 100 MGBS staff will report for duty tomorrow.
