Hyderabad: Heavy rains in Hyderabad pushed the Musi river into spate on Friday, disrupting traffic in Yadadri district. At Juluru–Rudravelly in Pochampally mandal, floodwater flowed over the low-level bridge, cutting off vehicle movement. Police quickly set up barricades on both sides to prevent accidents.
Residents said students could not attend school as the river waters rose. Patients travelling to AIIMS Bibinagar also faced severe difficulties, with ambulances forced to take long detours. Commuters headed towards Bibinagar and Bhongir rerouted through Pedda Ravulapalli to continue their journeys.
Commuters demand completion of high-level bridge works
Local people urged officials and public representatives to immediately resume the stalled high-level bridge works, saying such infrastructure gaps were leaving them stranded during every monsoon.
Meanwhile, heavy flooding also hit the Nagireddypalli low-level bridge on the Bhongir–Chityal highway. Police initially allowed vehicles to cross but withdrew permission once the current intensified. Barricades were erected on both sides, forcing traffic to a complete halt. Vehicles piled up for long stretches as stranded commuters waited for water levels to recede.
Residents demanded permanent solutions to avoid recurring transport disruptions during heavy rains.
