Hyderabad: Officials on Saturday lifted 26 floodgates of the Nagarjuna Sagar project by five feet. They released 2,09,210 cusecs of water into the Krishna River.
This was the fourth major outflow from the reservoir this season. On Friday, engineers began the release by opening two gates in the morning and eight by evening. All gates had remained shut for two days before that.
This latest operation marked the highest volume of water discharged so far in July–August. Officials said this is the first time the outflow has crossed 600 cusecs during the current season.
The reservoir’s full level is 590 feet. On Saturday, the water level reached 589.50 feet after heavy inflows from upstream.
Inflow into the project stood at 2,59,610 cusecs. Water also continues to flow through the main powerhouse, right and left bank canals, the SLBC tunnel, and low-level canals.
Authorities warned residents and fishermen downstream to stay alert as all 26 gates remain open.
