Nagarjuna Sagar reaches full level, gates lifted for water release

Hyderabad: The Nagarjuna Sagar full level of 590 feet was reached on Sunday, turning the reservoir into a brimming lake. As a result, authorities opened eight gates to release surplus water downstream.

Officials lifted each gate by five feet, discharging a total of 1.16 lakh cusecs of water. The outflow matched the inflow at the time of release. This marked one of the season’s peak water movements from the Krishna basin.

Currently, 64,000 cusecs are flowing through the spillway, while 33,048 cusecs are being directed to the power house for hydroelectric generation. The right canal is receiving 10,040 cusecs, and the left canal is drawing 7,353 cusecs for irrigation needs.
