Hyderabad: Heavy inflows into the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir prompted authorities to lift two crest gates on Sunday morning, releasing water downstream. The reservoir’s water level reached its full reservoir level (FRL) of 590 feet, with storage at 312.04 TMC, matching its full capacity.
According to irrigation officials, the reservoir recorded an inflow of 65,827 cusecs and an outflow of 60,644 cusecs. Continuous rain in the Krishna basin has triggered flooding in major projects, including Jurala, Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar, filling them to capacity.

The crest gate operation drew tourists to the site, who gathered to watch water gushing downstream. Officials claimed that the release was necessary to manage levels and ensure safety. The current inflows are expected to continue as upstream catchments receive persistent rainfall.
With both inflow and outflow remaining high, authorities are monitoring the situation closely. They have urged people living along the downstream stretch of the Krishna to stay alert.
