Hyderabad: Heavy inflows from the upper catchment and bouts of rain have pushed up water levels in several major reservoirs across Telangana. Authorities have opened gates at multiple projects to release surplus water downstream.
Nagarjuna Sagar project gates lifted amid heavy inflows
At the Nagarjuna Sagar project, 14 crest gates were lifted by five feet to discharge excess water. The reservoir’s full reservoir level is 598.40 feet, while the current level stands at 588.40 feet. The sight of the flowing water has drawn tourists to the project site.
Sriramsagar and Sripada Yellampalli projects receive heavy flows
The Sriramsagar project is receiving an inflow of 52,840 cusecs, with 53,685 cusecs being released through eight open gates. Similarly, at the Sripada Yellampalli project in Peddapalli district, five gates have been lifted to release 27,841 cusecs of water. The reservoir, with a full storage capacity of 20.17 TMC, is currently at full level.
Telangana reservoirs brimming with floodwater
Officials said the inflows are expected to continue as rains persist in the catchment areas. They are monitoring water levels closely while maintaining regulated releases to ensure safety downstream.
