Hyderabad: The Nagarjuna Sagar Project is nearing full capacity due to steady inflows over the past few days. On Sunday, authorities opened 22 crest gates up to five feet to release excess water from the reservoir.
According to the latest data, both inflow and outflow at the project stood at 2.27 lakh cusecs. Officials discharged 10,040 cusecs through the right canal and 8,896 cusecs via the left canal. The power house received 33,739 cusecs, while the spillway discharged 1.72 lakh cusecs into the river.
Currently, the water level at Nagarjuna Sagar capacity stands at 587.50 feet, slightly below its full reservoir level of 590 feet. The reservoir holds 305.80 TMC of water against a total capacity of 312.04 TMC.
Spillway releases intensify as reservoir reaches critical mark
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to manage inflows and ensure dam safety. Continued rainfall in upstream areas has contributed to the rising water level. The coordinated release through canals, power house, and spillway aims to balance storage and downstream flow.
Officials urged downstream residents and farmers to stay alert. They also confirmed that water levels are being tracked round-the-clock and necessary safety protocols remain in place.
