Hyderabad: Nagarjuna Sagar dam authorities opened 26 crest gates on Wednesday to release floodwater downstream as inflows from Srisailam surged to nearly 3 lakh cusecs.
With heavy flood discharge from upstream reservoirs Jurala and Sunkesula pushing large volumes into Srisailam, the downstream Sagar reservoir began receiving matching inflows. To manage water levels, 2,66,542 cusecs are being let out through a combination of gates and power generation units.
Srisailam, currently receiving about 2.76 lakh cusecs from Jurala and Sunkesula, is discharging close to 2.9 lakh cusecs through its own crest gates and hydropower stations. Officials are monitoring real-time levels to regulate flow into the Krishna river system.
