Hyderabad: Water inflow into the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir from the Srisailam Left Bank Power House has crossed 25,789 cusecs, triggering optimism among farmers in the ayacut region about an early release of irrigation water.
With floodwaters arriving in the Krishna river basin in the first week of July, officials say there is a strong chance of advancing water release through the left canal of Nagarjuna Sagar. The full reservoir level of the dam is 590 feet. As of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the water level stood at 517.60 feet.
The Total capacity of Nagarjuna Sagar is 312.4050 TMC, of which 144.9362 TMC is currently available. While 9,874 cusecs are being received, 900 cusecs are being discharged to SLBC.
Nagarjuna Sagar dam SE Mallikarjun Rao said repairs on the project have been completed, in view of the inflows from upstream. As per recommendations of the Dam Safety Review Panel Committee, greasing of crest gates, replacement of rubber seals and ropeway wires, gate and motor repairs, oiling, and painting work have all been finished.
Meanwhile, five gates of the Jurala project in Gadwal district were opened to manage an inflow of 67,000 cusecs. The project is being maintained at 317.190 meters.
Through five gates, 32,675 cusecs were discharged, in addition to 31,426 cusecs via power generation. Other releases included 650 cusecs to Bhima Lift-1, 315 cusecs to Koilsagar Lift, 550 cusecs via the left canal, 280 cusecs through the right canal, 150 cusecs via RDS Link Canal, 750 cusecs to Bhima Lift-2, and 450 cusecs to the parallel canal.
Total outflow from Jurala stood at 66,388 cusecs.
