Hyderabad: A Nalgonda POCSO court on Monday sentenced a man to 21 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2018.
The convict, Domala Ramulu from Vanipakala village in Chityal mandal, entered the house of an eight-year-old girl on February 1, 2018. He attacked her while she was watching television. The girl’s father filed a complaint at Chityal police station on February 11, leading to case number 91/2018.
Court delivers verdict after eight-year trial
Police filed charges under IPC Sections 448, 506, 376(2)(i) and Section 5(m) read with 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012. After an eight-year trial, Judge Roja Ramani examined evidence and testimonies before pronouncing the verdict.
The court imposed a 21-year prison sentence and fined Ramulu ₹30,000. It also ordered a compensation of ₹10 lakh to the survivor.
Special Public Prosecutor Vemula Ranjith Kumar argued for the prosecution. Key support came from IOs K. Bhaskar Reddy, D. Saidulu Babu, and K. Pandu Rangareddy, along with Bharosa legal officer Mamidi Kalpana and liaison officers P. Narender and N. Mallikharjun.
SP Sharat Chandra Pawar praised the police and court staff for their role in securing the conviction.
